Grandma Keidel left yesterday and we are all sad! Emily was particularly fussy... Thankfully she will be returning in a month to help us while we finish our residencies this spring. Both Grandmas have an amazing touch with the baby. I feel very lucky to have such wonderful help.
Emily and I are hanging out at home this morning while Aaron is at work. She has a new interest-The City on MTV. Ok, I don't think she really appreciates the intricate story line but she does like the shapes and sound.
More to come-Emily has a 1 month pediatrician visit next week!

First Bath at Home
Emily had her first bath at home the other night. She fussed a bit through most of the bath but did really well overall. Here she is in her bath robe in a fleeting moment of calmness :)
Here are the rest of the pictures for your viewing pleasure:

2 week pediatrician visit
Emily is doing quite well with weight gain- she is now 7lb, 1.5 ounces. That is up quite a bit from her birth weight already! While her jaundice persists, it is mild and not harmful to her at this point. She may continue to be a bit yellow for several weeks. Her personality is coming through now. She likes to be cuddled and rocked and eat very frequently. Emily is a wonderful baby! Our next pediatrician visit is in 2 weeks. Stay tuned....

Mom's visit comes to a close
It was a great time having Grandma Weiss here. She was very, very helpful and loved seeing, holding and hugging the new baby. We are looking to their return visit in January.
Thank you Grandma Weiss for coming to Wisconsin !!!

Delivery and beyond
Hello everyone! Aaron started this cool blog for the family and I wanted to say hello.
What a week we have had! Probably the most exhausting, terrifying, and amazing time of my life. Labor definitely surprised me 2 1/2 weeks early with strange lower abdominal pains that started a few hours after a long shift in the ER... I didn't know what was going on until these pains came every 10 minutes and seemed to get more severe as the hours went by. Aaron was at work when I texted him at 1am to ask him if he had time to talk. The exact text was "ru busy?" He was able to get home and frantically take me to the hospital. Amazingly, this was the real thing and the labor and delivery ward went into full swing. 12 hours from start to finish-delivery at 11:35am on Dec. 4th. I was very grateful to my OB doctor, Matthew Lee. He was with us all morning and delivered the baby himself. He thinks we should rename her "Emmi Lee" to commemorate his name. :) I'm considering it...
Our L and D nurses Jessica and Deb were awesome and I owe them thanks!
Emily is a beautiful baby with a slight yellow tinge....more on that later. She eats well and has good GI function. We are not getting much sleep but I hear this should change....eventually. My mom is here with us in Milwaukee for a few weeks to help with baby. This has been quite a blessing. We are looking forward to Aaron's moms visit and more family visiting in January. We will keep you posted!!

A touch of yellow
So Emily did have enough jaundice requiring a bili blanket. They delivered it during the Packer game yesterday and she has been lit up ever since. She kinda looks like a baby glow work/human lite bright. :)
Lora made it well here yesterday. I picked her up while Ann stayed at home. We stopped by Babies R Us on the way home and picked up a "few" things.
Today we are going to the pediatrician for the first time. Will have the bilirubin level rechecked and go from there :) Take care and we will talk to you soon.
p.s. I added a few new photos at: http://picasaweb.google.com/amw1675/HomeWithEmily#

1st Post
What a first night at home! I am writing this from the sofa while Emily and I hang out in the living room giving Ann some much needed rest. Everyone is doing well but operating on a little less sleep than normal. Today is a big day - we get to go get our bili checked at Children's and then go to pick up Grandma Keidel from the airport. Should be a busy but fun adventure.
